Ship emissions regulations from January 1, 2015

From 1 January 2015 the EU sulphur directive 2012/33/EU will enter into force, meaning that the maximum allowed sulphur in the exhaust from ships engines will be further reduced from current 1.0% to 0.1% in the Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECAs) which include the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel. The EU sulphur directive is the outcome of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (Marpol) adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Due to that transport prices will increase in traffics, were ferry is used in range of 3,5% - 8%
